Q10 - [J-drama] Review

I actually wanted to do a review of this drama right after I finished watching it, but I never got the chance to do so. And now two years later, I pretty much forgotten most of what the story was about, so I decided to re-watch the whole drama, so that I can refresh my memory and get this review done. Anyway, this drama, at first, seems to be just a typical school drama with an unlikely romance between a human and a robot, but it does have a deep message behind the story about the meaning of life and love.

The story begins with the principle of Shikahamabashi High school who got drunk one night and was roaming around the streets until he sees a girl lying in a pile of garbage. He decides to take her home with him. The next day, the principle was shocked to see what he has done and hides her inside the school until he can figures out what to do with her. He also gets two teachers involved with his situation and asked them for help. However, Fukai Heita (Sato Takeru), a high school student, finds a sleeping girl in a abandoned classroom. He accidentally activates her causing her to come to life. She demands him to give her a name. So, looking at the label "Q10" on her foot, he decides to name her Kyuto (Maeda Atsuko). The two teachers, principle, and Heita discovers that she is a robot. They try to figure out what to do with her, so they decide that Heita should be the one to take care of her.

I personally loved watching the interactions between Kyuto and Heita. It sometimes can be cute, heart-warming and very funny. Kyuto's speech and movements are very robotic. So, Heita tries his best to teach her how to be human. At the same time, Kyuto turns his world upside down. Before he met her, he had no goals for his future. Because, he is living with his poor heart condition. He doesn't know how long he will live, so he believes that there's no point in thinking about his future. But Kyuto unintentional teaches him to live his life to the fullest and not to be afraid of the unknown future. Heita does eventually falls in love Kyuto. He also worries that this relationship is not going to last forever. But in the end they learn from each other.

Kyuto and Heita are not the only characters that get a spotlight in this drama. But there are other side characters that gets a chance to explore their own insecurities, fears, love relationships, and other problems that they have to overcome. The story switches back and forth with many of the character's backstory. I surprising found them to be as interesting as the main characters. Their side stories did not distracted the main plot of the story.

When I first watched this, I did not expect that this drama would be that good. I thought that this will be just an ordinary fun and whimsical school drama to watch. But I did not expect it to have such a powerful and meaningful message about lessons in life. However, what I liked about this drama is that I could related to what some of  the characters are going through. Like, trying to figure out what you are going to do with the rest of your life, and finding your purpose in life, and I can completely relate to that. That's why this drama is one of my favorites to watch.
