Kagi no Kakatta Heya - Ep 11 (Final Thoughts)

The Glass Hammer (part 2)

I was hoping that they will show the interrogation scene between Enomoto and the detective, questioning about what happened 5 years ago and maybe get a little insight of who Enomoto really is. But no such scene. Aoto simply gets a phone call saying that Enomoto was already released. They did not find any evidence that connected to him to the murder. So, the real suspect must have pushed this murder incident onto Enomoto making him turn into the suspect.

Look out below! There will be spoilers.

After Enomoto's release, he concluded that the president of the nursing company had purposely faked the sniping incident and the threatening letters, so that he would have an excuse to increase the security in his office floor. In fact, he was hiding something very important in his office.

Later, Enomoto confronts the real suspect alone. And, that suspect was Shiina (Tamaki), the window cleaner, who murdered the president. He murdered the president so that he could steal the 600 million yen worth of diamonds that he was hiding in his office. But Shiina explains that his first motif for murdering the president was to take revenge on him. When he found out about the hidden diamonds, he decides to steal it and use it to start over his life and to be free of his troubled past. He wants to be on the other side of the glass, where people live a rich and full life. However, Enomoto explained that his situation is like being locked inside a glass box. And, he himself does not want to be trapped there. Even though he may not be able to go to the other side, but he wants to remain free.

Seizawa and Aoto goes to Enomoto's workshop to meet with him, but they noticed that his collection of locks are gone and there seems to be no signs of Enomoto. But they get a call from the detective that Shina has turned himself in and they found the stolen diamonds in his apartment. However, they discovered that out of the 600 million yen worth of diamonds, 100 million of them were a fake. But three days later,  Aoto and Seizawa wonders where had Enomoto disappeared to, then all of the sudden, Aoto gets a phone call from Enomoto saying that he is at the airport. Due to some circumstances, he received a high income. Seizawa asks him if he knows anything about the fake diamonds. In response, Enomoto thinks that the president must have been cheated by the dealers. Then, Aoto asks him where he is going and when will he come back. He says that he's not sure and he doesn't know. And with that, he hangs up. Leaving Aoto and Seizawa confused.

Final thoughts: After re-watching the final episode, I'm actually quite satisfied with the ending. Personally, I don't mind at all if they don't make a sequel after this. But if they do make it, then that will be great too. However, the show did not reveal much of Enomoto's backstory. But I actually liked it that way. It makes Enomoto even more mysterious and a intriguing guy. Although, I'm not sure if the finale was trying to imply that Enomoto might have something to do with the fake diamonds. He did mention something about receiving  a "high income." Mhmmm...suspicious. I mean, I don't think Enomoto would all of a sudden get up and leave, if he didn't have any reason to do so. I'm not sure if Enomoto is supposed to be some sort of thief, but whatever he is, he is very crafty and he knows whats he's doing.

Anyway, I had a fun time watching this drama. It's obvious that the culprits in this show were easy to spot, but I really did not care about that. I just wanted to see how Enomoto would solve these locked room cases. The episodic mysteries weren't that bad. I thought I was going to get bored with the same pattern being used over again. But it was interesting to see how the suspects had done it because many of them used their own unique methods to try to get away with their crime.

I thought that Ohno did a great job as the mysterious Enomoto and keeping a stoic expression most of the time. It must have been difficult for him memorizing all his lines because his character has a lot of dialogs. But kudos for Ohno. I am looking forward to what other projects he going to do next. As for Toda, she didn't  stick out for me in this drama, but I don't blame her. Her character, Aoto, is supposed to be simple. But I thought she did a nice job anyway. Sato as Seizawa, I don't really know much about this actor, but I liked him. Seizawa does have his funny moments in this drama.

Overall, I had a great time watching this show. I liked how things concluded nicely. And, Enomoto will always be shrouded in mystery.
