Piece - First Impression (Eps 1-4)
I had to put this drama on hold because it looked liked it will take some time for it to be subbed. So far, only half of the series have been subbed. But I was curious to see what this was about and it seems to have a little mystery story with teen romance.
The story begins with Suga, a University student who gets a phone call saying that Origuchi Haruka, her classmate from high school, has passed away.
Suga Mizuho (Honda Tsubasa)
She's very cool and composed about the things that happen around her. However, while attending her classmate's funeral, Origuchi's mother thanks her for being their daughter's friend when she was still alive. But Suga becomes confused by this because she has only spoken to Origuchi once. Now, Haruka's mother wants her help to find her daughter's boyfriend.
Narumi Hikaru (Nakayama Yuma)
He slacks off at school. He likes go out with multiple girls at the same time. But has no remorse for breaking up with them. During his high school days, he was the first guy who takes an interest in Suga. But they later broke up when Suga learns more about his mysterious past. He masks his real emotions to everyone by acting like he's an easy-going and care-free guy, when he has a past that scarred him for life.
Origuchi Haruka (Mizuno Erina)
She passes away, at the age of 19, due to cancer. During her high school days, she was a loner and gets bullied by others. Most of the students who were in the same class as her, who attended her funeral, did not know her that well. However, her mother wants to find out who her boyfriend was because he was the only person who had any connection with her.
Impression: I admit that I'm liking this more than the Sprout drama. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy its simplicity of the story, but I do like a little more complexity of the story and depth with the characters. It just makes things more memorable and interesting.
I don't recognize any of the actors in this drama expect for Nakayama. I first saw him in Koishita Akuma drama which is a cheesy vampire romance. (I never manged to finish it). He's acting was kind of awkward back then. But here, I think his acting has gotten a lot better. Or, maybe the character he's playing suits him more. At least, he's much more watchable in this one.
Anyway, the synopsis of the story had me intrigued and it has a little mystery/suspense. I don't know what Suga will find while investigating on who's Origuchi's boyfriend. But there's probably some juicy secrets that are waiting to be discovered.
Side note: I don't know if it's just me, but the interior and exterior of the school building looks so familiar. The same building that was used in Sprout.
