Osozaki no Himawari - First Impression (Eps 1-6)

It really has been a long time since I’ve seen Ikuta Toma in a drama. I guess you can say that I am mostly watching this because of Toma. But this drama has started to grow on me and it’s turning out to be an interesting adult slice-of-life story.

The story begins with a 28 year-old Kodaira Jotaro (Toma) who doesn’t have any ambitions on what he wants to do with the rest of his life. He’s care-free and doesn’t take his life that seriously. But he recently lost his job. So, he quickly finds another job as a staff member for the revitalization team in Shimato, a rural town in Japan. There, he meets and befriends many of the locals who live there and the people he work with.

At first glance, I wasn’t really that interested in this story and in fact, I thought it was going to be a little boring. But I still wanted my dose of Toma in a drama, so I decided I’ll endure it, even if it gets dull. But after episode 5, my interest peaked up and story gets interesting as it moves into a complex romance and we get to learn more about the character’s struggles.

But I do love the relationship between Jotaro and a doctor from Tokyo, Nikaido Kahori (Maki Yoko). They have their moments that are humorous and heartwarming. Like, when he calls on her for some advice on dating and other tedious things. She sarcastically envies him for having so much free time while she’s too busy working. Although, they didn’t get along in the beginning, but as they learned more about each other, they discover that they both have something common and they are both uncertain about their own future.

I can totally relate to what Jotaro is going through about the uncertainty of one’s future. So, I’ll continue to watch this. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a drama that gives me that good-warm-feeling inside.

It has a lot of beautiful sceneries.

This bridge always freaks me out because there's no railings or anything. If someone is not too careful, they'll fall off  right over the edge.
