Kagi no Kakatta Heya - (Ep 1) First Impression
The drama starts off with Aoto (Toda, Erika) who has just gotten a job at the Friedman & Seizawa Law Firm. And, works under Seizawa (Sato, Koichi) who is the head of that department. Aoto was told to talk to the clients who were having some kind of trouble. The clients explains to Aoto that the head of the Shin Nippon Funerals has committed suicide. His body was found in a room that was locked and nobody can get inside. However, the clients believe that this was most likely to be a murder than a suicide. So, they ask her and Seizawa to investigate this matter.
Aoto passes this information to Seizawa, while heading towards the Central Asahi Bank Vault, however Seizawa doesn't want to accept the case. While Seizawa was doing some bank business, Aoto waits outside of the bank vault and she notices a button right next to the vault. Curiosity gets the best of her, and so she pushes it. Causing the vault door to close, leaving Seizawa and a another person locked inside the vault. Fortunately, the vault has an emergency lock. But unfortunately, there's only one person who knows the combination, the president of the bank, and that person happens to be locked inside the vault. So they called in security and that's when Enomoto (Ohno, Satoshi) comes in. He successfully unlocks the vault with his computer program to find the combination.
The next day, after the investigation, they get a call from Enomoto saying that he has something important to tell them. Which lead Seizawa and Aoto to the security company place where Enomoto resides in the back of the building. As soon they enter his room, they learn that Enomoto has a fetish for locks. He has a vast collection of locks dating from the Edo period, as well as other locks from around the world. Aoto was about to show them her sketch of the crime scene room, but Enomoto brings out a miniature model of that room. Which was cute. It has all the littlest details from the actual room. And, how did he manage to create this model in one day?! Anyway, he proceeds to explain the different possibilities of how someone can get into a locked room.
In the end, Enomoto was able to successfully deduce the case. However, he doesn't know nor care about who the culprit is. He's only interest was to solve the mystery within the locked room. Which leads to Seizawa to reveal who the real culprit was.
Thoughts: Ohno's drama completely won me over more than Aiba's drama, Mikeneko no Holmes no Suri. Aiba's drama just seemed too predictable and I had a gut feeling that its' episodic mystery were going to be too tiresome and dull for me. However, I really liked Ohno in this drama. The Enomoto character seems to be very mysterious and an intriguing guy. I want to know more about him and the reason for his obsession with locks. So, hopefully this drama will cover his backstory. I wonder what kind of music he is listening to because he always has his earphones on. Or, is he really listening to music? I'm not sure. But I am hoping that the mystery cases will be interesting and the character interaction will be fun to watch.
