Yuri!!! On Ice - Episode 3
I Am Eros and Eros is Me.
I’m way
too focused on Yuri on Ice that I have forgotten about the existence of Jdrama.
I know I should be catching up with the fall Jdramas, but in the meantime,
let’s get back to this show first.
I Am katsudon and katsudon is Me.
Yuri and
Yurio are working hard and practicing their routine for their Short Program. They
both have a hard time channeling their emotions as Eros and Agape, since this
is outside of their comfort zone. For Yuri, in order to set the mood of mature sexiness,
he thinks of his love for katsudon (pork cutlet bowl) and it works. Even the announcer mentions
about this as he about to do his program which is hilarious. I can’t believe he
actually told him this.
For Yurio,
to find his connection with unconditional love, Victor suggests that he goes to
a temple to get the Buddhist treatment like trying the Zazen (sitting)
meditation and also mediating
under the ice-cold waterfall. Yurio has an epiphany and thinks of his
relationship with grandfather as a child. We don’t really know much of Yurio’s
past, but he and his grandfather seem very close.
Finally we
get to their short program and I loved both of their performances, they managed
to pull it off so beautifully. It looked like the animation has downgraded from
the first episode, but I don’t care, it still looks good. I really thought that
Yurio will win the show because he nailed all the jumps perfectly. But his
heart wasn’t into his performance and he just wanted to get it over with. For
Yuri, even though he missed one jump, his artistry skills was still flawless. His
performance was fun, sexy, and he managed to pull of being a delicious katsudon
you want to bite into. Overall, he won over the crowd’s hearts. Yurio didn’t
stick around for the celebration and he leaves to go back to Russia. It’s too bad
that’s he’s leaving because I was starting to like him.
Cheer up, you'll get them next time.
And so, in the
next episode, Yuri will be competing in the Free Program event. The difference between
the Short and Free Program is that the Short Program, like the name itself,
it’s a shorter program, under 2 min. The Free Program is longer, like 4-5 min. They
add up both of the SP and FP scores together to get the final score. If you
want to learn more about the technical side of figure skating, go to the ISU guide book, you'll learn everything.
