Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge Drama Review
I was really disappointed with the outcome of this drama. When this series was released, I was so excited to watch it, since I do like romance and comedy genre and I thought it might be worth watching. However, I think I had too much expectations from this drama.
Four handsome college students living together in the same lodging house owned by their Landlady, Ms. Nakahara. She promises them that she will give them free rent if they can turn her niece, Sunako, into a proper lady. However, Sunako is a very awkward girl who acts and looks like a ghost from a horror movie. The four men soon realizes that this will be a difficult challenge to get Sunako onto the road of becoming a beautiful lady.
I did enjoy the performances from the two actors, Aya Omasa who played as Sunako and Kazuya Kamenashi as Kyouhei. But I especially enjoyed Aya's performance as Sunako. It was fun to watch her character go through different phases of emotions. From her sudden outburst of strength to a creepy girl who likes anything that has to do with horror and macabre. She even sleeps inside a coffin. And yes, that's how far she is addicted to her own hobby. I also enjoyed Kamenashi's performance as the bad-tempered boy who is the most popular out of the foursome due to his attractive looks which leads him to have a many bad experiences such as being harassed by many fan girls and boys. Both of these character seems to have good chemistry on screen and good character development in between.
As for the rest rest of the guys, Takenaga Oda is a intelligent and reserved guy who mostly keeps his personal emotions to himself. Yukinojo Toyama is cute and adorable and often mistaken as a girl. Ranmaru Morii is a playboy who comes from a wealthy family that owns many hotel chains. It was disappointing to see these characters underdeveloped. Most of their personal problems gets quickly resolved within one episode.
Overall, it wasn't that bad. Although, the comedy was fun in the beginning, but later it becomes overused to the point where it's not funny anymore. I watched this series without reading the manga and before watching the anime, so I'm sure that the original manga is much better than this. But other than that, this drama is meant to be enjoyed for the humor, fun and just to kill some time.
