Keizoku 2: SPEC - Drama Review

Wow, this was an incredible drama. The final episode was amazing and epic. Each episodes just keeps getting better and better. I did not find it to be boring and the more I watch, the more intriguing the story gets. This is definitely a different kind of police/detective story. Usually, when I watch this kind of genre, it really bores me to death to see the same pattern being used over and over again through out the drama. It always starts off with an introduction to a crime scene, the investigation starts, the culprit is revealed, the case is resolved, and the end. However, in Keizoku they use the same pattern, but there is a supernatural or unexplainable event taken place while they investigate a crime, which keeps the story much more interesting. I guess I'm more into the the police and detective genre story that involves in unexplainable phenomenons, twists, and has quirky characters that are involved in it.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police has set up an organization called Unidentified Crimes Unit. Where they investigate unusual or unsolved cases that deals with individuals who have "SPEC". Or people who have special abilities such as telekinesis, predicting the future, seeing visions from an object or person, stopping time and ect. Toma Saya (Toda Erika) and Sebumi Takeru (Kase Ryo)  both have been transferred to this department. Toma is an intellect woman, but often times she can be socially awkward to the people around her. Sembumi was a leader of the Special Operations Unit. There was an incident where one of his comrade shoots him, however in an odd moment, his comrade was killed by his own bullets that he just shot. Being blamed for shooting his comrade, Sembumi is sent to the SPEC division as a punishment. But there is a secret organization that has been killing individuals who has SPEC and for some reasons trying to hide there existence. It's up to Toma and Sembumi to work together, despite their differences, to stop individuals who have SPEC from having to get away with their crimes and get to the bottom of the secret organization.

I have never seen the first season of this series, so I can't really compare it between the two. But Toda Erika was hilarious as the oddball character. Seeing Sembumi and Toma as partners in crime was comical. Sembumi always complains about Toma's gluttonous ways while Toma was annoyed with his methodical thinking. They often don't see things eye to eye, but they gradually start to get accustomed to each others habits. Personally, I really enjoyed this show and it's my favorite for the 2010 fall drama series.
