Mei-chan no Shitsuji - Final Thoughts
Since Hiro Mizushima was in this drama, I decided to watch it. Even though it has a ridiculous story about a all-girls school called St. Lucia Girls' Academy where each of them have their own personal butler, I still had fun watching this drama.
The story follows Mei (Nana Eikura), who discovered that after her parents' death, her father was actually the son of a very rich Hongo family. Then, she finds this butler named Rihito (Hiro) who is to serve Mei, and he is also the older brother of Kento (Takeru Sato), Mei's childhood friend. After Mei inherits the Hongo family fortune, she is forced to go to the academy by her grandfather. There is also a mysterious student attending the school named Lucia (Yu Yamada), who is part of the Hongo family. She will do anything that is necessary to inherit Mei's fortune and steal her butler. In addition, Mei experiences hardships, becoming a proper lady, and trying to get along with the other school girls. Later on, a love triangle develops between Mei, Rihito, and Kento.
This is the most ridiculous story plot I have ever heard so far. I mean, a school that allows students to attend with their ikemen butler. And by the way, one of their rules at the academy states that love is forbidden between the master and their butler. But of coarse there wouldn't be much of a story, so there has to be some rule breaking. So, Mei and Rihito slowly develop feelings for each other. On top of that, Kento has feelings for her and Lucia, who has been Rihito's master in the past, is trying to get him back to her side again. It's a typical shoujo romance story and the plot is very predictable
The story line and the comedy relief can be a bit cheesy most of the time, but for some reason I still enjoyed it. Mostly, I enjoyed the performances from the three main cast. I guess that's what made me continued to watch it until the very end.
This drama has a typical setting of a light-heartedness comedy and a love triangle plot, which I've seen this pattern before from other shoujo manga adaptations. Nonetheless, if you don't mind a cliche story of romance and comedy, then you'll probably enjoy this drama.
