Yuri!!! on Ice - Ep 5 & 6

Episode 5

Minami is all of us

Before Yuri can enter the GPF, he starts off with local short program championships in Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu. He’s competing with other younger ice skaters, he’s the only one who is older. We meet a new character, Minami Kenjiro, 17 year-old kid who won last year’s Nationals. Minami-kun is a big admirer of Yuri, so he’s looking forward to competing against him. During his free program, he knows how to grab the audience’s attention with his fun and jazzy performance. He manages to get second place.

As for Yuri, he still as difficulties with certain jumps techniques. Victor suggest to change up the routine to make it easier on him to rack up some points. But Yuri goes through the difficult jumps anyway. He learns to not worry about making mistakes and just have fun and stay in tuned with the performance. Despite making errors, at least his presentation is still good. He won first place, personal best score. Now, onto Beijing.

Episode 6

 Phichit is all of us

This is a very fun episode because we get see other figure skaters from around the world. Now, the Grand Prix Finale has started. Yuri will be competing in 6 different countries, starting in china first. As long as the skaters can reach the top 6, then they can continue to the next stage. Yuri meets with his good friend Phichit, a Thai ice skater. He’s actually very good, his skating is consistence and he manages to get in 4th place.

Other skaters who made it to the top 6 including, 6th place: Guang-Hong Ji from China, Christophe (sex on ice) from Switzerland lands him in 5th place, 3rd place: Leo from USA, 2nd place: Georgi from Russia. Georgi’s anti-love theme is something. He just broke up with his girlfriend who happens to be in the audience. He plays as a witch casting a curse on her. I’m sure he feels better now after he let out all his anger. Last, 1st place is Yuri, he made a big improvement, he nailed all of his technical elements. Great job! Yuri.

As this anime airs, the real GPF is going on right now. This week, Nov 11-13, the skaters are in France and then next week they’ll be in China. In the anime timeline, they start in china. They are not following the same order as the real time event place. Yuri and Yurio will go against each other in Russia in the last event. Technically, France is supposed to be the final place. Anyway, I’m just looking at the ISU event calendar, you can see all the dates and event places.
