First Impressions: Mahoutsukai no Yome: Hoshi Matsu Hito (OVA)
Not knowing any background information about the story and
just watching the first episode alone, it immediately draws me into their promising
magical-fantasy world.
The anime introduces Chise who has a very miserable childhood, (with a similar backstory to Natsume in Natsume’s Yuujinchou). She’s an orphan, the weird kid who doesn’t fit in, and lives with her adoptive parents who neglects her. Everyone around her is uncomfortable being with her because she acts in an odd behavior. The reason for she acts odd is that she can see supernatural creatures that nobody else can see. Chise has no idea where these creatures come from, or why they’re after her. She lives in a constant terror and nobody can help her. Until, she meets a guy who is the “Magician of the Forest,” lives in the woods and has a house filled with books. He also shares the same ability as her. He’s probably going to teach her about a world where magic, faeries, and other mythical critters that exist and are hidden from the non-magical people.
From watching the PV, it looks like it will show Chise’s past and how she got to where she is right now. Right now, she is an apprentice to the great sorcerer, Elias Ainsworth. He’s apparently also his fiancé. I have no idea how that happened. I’m curious to find out what kind of relationship they have. Like, what makes Chise so special? Also, can Elias be trusted? He seems like a nice guy, but I sense he cans also do some dark voodoo magic. I don’t know, maybe it just my overreacted intuition.
As for the quality of the animation, it is gorgeous and beautiful. I expected no less from Wit Studio. The animation style is very fluid and has a movie-like quality. Definitely, check it out for yourselves to see the stunning visuals.
What drew me in to the story is that it has a very Ghibli-esq
theme. It has the sense of wonder, curiosity, mystery, and a youthful adventure
quality to it. It make me want to sit back, relax, forget about the real world,
and let the story absorb you in
.
.
I am looking forward to the rest of the episodes, which are
coming out next year in 2017. The 2nd episode is coming out in February. I’m guessing that creating stunning visuals will
take some time to finish and Wit Studio has other projects that they are working on as
well. So, I’m writing this post to
remind myself to watch till then. But in the meantime, I will be reading the manga.
