Blood-C - It All Ends in Blood and Chaos - Final Thoughts
This anime really tests your patience. I mean, it's very slow paced. Although, I don't mind a slow paced story, if this was a 24+ episode series. But this series is short and it really needs to cut to the chase. I had a lot of frustrating emotions while watching this show. I'm like, come on! let's get to the main plot.
The entire episodes mostly consists of Saya's every-day-life-style. By day, she's just a regular high school student who loves to sing and hang out with her friends. On her way to school and home, she visits the Guimauve Cafe which is owned by Fumito, who makes on-the-house meals for Saya. Saya also makes a few side stops to greet a stray dog. Saya lives and works as a priestess of the Ukishima Shrine. Her father, Todoyashi, also resides there as the priest. But, by night, Saya is given many training missions from her father to kill monsters known as Furukimonos (the Old Ones) that are prowling around the village. However, each Furukimonos that Saya encountered with, mentions something about a "covenant." Saya has no clue what there were talking about. But this triggers her to see some of her past memories that she never knew she had. Saya begins to question herself about her own identity while the people who resides in the village are being slaughtered right to left.
And then we finally get to see the plot twist at end. Although, the twist wasn't all that surprising for me. During the slow development, I had a feeling that something strange was going on in Saya's village. Also, I had a hunch to whose the master mind behind all this, and it's all thanks to comparing the narrator's voice to another similar character voice. The plot twist was hilarious and they even poked fun of their own show on how this "story" was going by so slow. The "main cast" decided to reveal the truth because they were so impatient in waiting for Saya to regain her memories and it was going nowhere. And, I actually agree with them. Although, they've could have done this a lot sooner.
If I had to say one good thing about this anime is that ClAMP and Production I.G does a good job in the horror and action department. There are lots of blood and chaotic massacre of the residents who lives in the small village. It was disappointing that they covered up some of the gory parts with either black or white stream of light. But in episode 12, I started to appreciate the censorship because the action and violence has gotten very intense. The last episode had the best animated action sequences.
I really don't have much to say about this anime. The pacing was really slow, and there's no character development. By the end of this series, I couldn't care less about the characters weather they lived or died. The plot twist was was laughable and I just couldn't take this plot seriously. But despite having to endure this slow paced story, the ending felt quite rewarding and it's all thanks to the last episode. That's weird, all my frustrating emotions that I had from the beginning were completely gone and cured by the last episode.
This whole anime series was definitely a set up to see if the audience will get hooked into this new Blood franchise. In other words, a big set up for the upcoming Blood-C movie which will release in June 2012. Yes, I have fallen for the trap and now I'm intrigued as to how Clamp and Production I.G will continue to finish the story in the movie.
If you want my advice for watching this series, you'll need patience, perseverance, sense of humor, and more patience.
There's so much blood and violence, I need something
that will cheer me up, like Saya's yummy obento lunch.
