Otomen - J-Drama Review
This drama is about a guy named Asuka Masamune (Okada Masaki) who is the captain of the kendo team in his High School. Yet, he also has a feminine mind as well. He likes to do girly stuff such as, cooking, sewing, and reading shoujo manga. His mother makes sure that he doesn't end up like his father, who left them because he wanted to become a women. So, Asuka has to keep a secret about his feminine side to his other classmates.
Ryo Miyakozuka (Kaho), who is a transfer student at Asuka's school, lives with her father who is a very tough police officer and a former kendo master. Even though she is a girl, she cannot sew, cook, or do any other feminine things. So, Asuka shows his feminine side and helps her with these things. In addition, Asuka does begin to have a crush on her.One of Asuka's classmate named Juta Tachibana (Sano Kazuma), tries to helps Asuka with his relationship with Ryo. He also discovers Asuka's secret that he is an Otomen and promises him that he will keep it a secret. Juta is secretly a shoujo manga artist and author of the Love Chick series. Which is Asuka's and Ryo's favorite shoujo manga to read. Juta bases his manga on Asuka and Ryo's relationship. I just cant believe that Ryo and Asuka doesn't even notice that the manga is based on their relationship. Even though Asuka said to himself that he can relate this manga to his own life.
I liked the first two episodes (Ep 1 & 2), but as I continue watch the rest of the episodes, the story kind of gets dull. Throughout the story, I was disappointed that their relationship hasn't progressed between Ryo and Asuka. And, some of the scenes where they were alone together seems to drags on, mostly through boring conversations, and they haven't even confessed yet. But finally at the end the season, they were able to confess how they really feel for each other. I hate it when these things happen at the last minuet. However, what I like about this drama is that there's a lot of comedic reliefs which were hilarious. Also, there was this one classmate (I forgot his name) in this drama who seems to get into a lot of sticky situations. Although, he doesn't mean to get trouble, but trouble seems to find him. He's a minor character in this drama, but I just love that guy, so hilarious. Overall, this drama wasn't that bad, and I still enjoyed watching it.
