xxxHolic - First Impression

I  never really imagined that any of the Clamp series would be adapted into live-action. But I was really surprised that WOWOW is taking a risk to make this one. But I've heard that WOWOW has a reputation of producing really great dramas and are different from other regular dramas. So, I hope this will be good.

When I first looked at their promotional images, I started to have some doubts about this adaptation. I mean, everyone in the images looked so depressed. I was like, I don't remember this series being so sad. But after watching episodes 1 and 2, now I understand that this drama is going for a more dark and serious side. And, it looks like it's staying away from the silly comedic things that happens in the original story. But I personally don't mind it at all. I'm guessing that taking comedy from the manga to an live-action media, sometimes it can be a hit or a miss. Most likely they are trying to avoid turning it into something cheesy. But I like the overall suspenseful tone of the drama. It gives it a more realistic feel and less cartoony feel.

I am also interested in seeing Takenaka Naoto and Adachi Yumi in this drama. Tanaka will be playing as a supernatural doctor. Yumi will be playing as a courtesan from another world. I haven't seen Yumi for a very long time, not since Garasu no Kamen (The Glass Mask) drama.

I'm still looking forward to watching this adaption. But I'm not really a big fan of the xxxHolic series. I've only looked at a small glimpse of the manga/anime. So, I have no idea what the outcome will be for the characters in the story. At least this drama will keep me engaged on what other surprises that it has along the way.
