Natsume Yuujinchou Shi - Final Thoughts
Natsume Yuujinchou always manages to keep each season interesting. All these
warm and fluffy feelings that the story gives off was still never tiring. Although, I have a feeling that this might be
the last season.
By this 4th season, I can tell that Natsume has really changed from what he was from the very beginning where he felt like he didn't belong anywhere and hated his supernatural ability. But now he has grown more comfortable in dealing with the different types supernatural encounters. He's more sociable and frequently hangs out with his school friends. And, he has finally found a place where he can call home at the Fujiwara resident, his foster parents. Although, he still has a few insecurities about being a burden to others. He makes sure that his friends and family doesn't get entangled with the Youkai world. And, afraid that they'll get hurt or something bad was going to happen to them. He tries to protect those that were around him and he puts the well being of his friends and including other friendly Youkais first before his own. He doesn't want to become a burden by asking his friends or even his few friends who knows his supernatural ability for help. But I think he slowly realizes the fact that he doesn't have to be alone when dealing with these things.

Nyanko-sensei doesn't change one bit. You'll most likely find him eating and drinking sake. Nyanko-sensei gets even more irritated at Natsume for intentionally and unintentionally randomly picking up or helping out strange Youkais along the way. But one of my favorite episode with him was in ep 5 where he impersonated as Natusme while the real Natsume was stuck inside a bottle. He doesn't want anybody to find about this, so he asked Nyanko-sensei to cover for him. Sensei tried his best in acting like Natsume, but he portrayed him in complete opposite, and instead portrayed more like himself. I was surprised that not only that this series knows how to portray the emotional parts, but also it knows how to deliver comedy at the same time.
I have this gut feeling that this will be the last season. In past seasons, Natsume and the other character's backgrounds and developments were already covered. Although, I wondered what happened to the Matoba clan because I wanted know more about them. However, usually at the end of each seasons, it concludes with Nastume and his Youkai friends partying, drinking, and playing games. But this time around, Natsume revisits his childhood home and reminisces about his parents when there were still alive. The last arc leads to a very sentimental and emotional ending which I think its a perfectly good ending.
If there is no new season, then that's fine for me. I mean, the manga is still ongoing and I could just pick it up where the anime left off. As usual, this series knows how to grab the audience with its emotional and heartfelt drama. And, that feeling you get after watching a sentimental moment, still lingers with you. But this series did managed to cheer me up through this cold and depressing winter.
