JIN 2 - Final Thoughts
The second season is a continuation from the previous season. Jin is still stuck in the past. Although, he has grown accustomed to the way of life in the Edo period, but begins to have some doubts whether or not he will be able to return to his own time.
The drama mostly focuses on the historical events that happened during the end of the Edo period. It also focused on a famous historical figure named Sakamoto Ryoma who helped influenced the Japanese civilization into a modern society. Also, this was the time where Ryoma was assassinated, and it's up to Jin to save him, if he can.
Presenting donuts as supplements for vitamin B1
Jin continues to introduce modern medicine and treatments to the people of the Edo period. As well as, performing surgeries and operations without proper medical tools, but instead had to use what they had in the Edo period. There were some moments during the operations scenes where it was too gruesome for me to even watch and I had to look away because it looked so real. However, one of my favorite modern medicine moment in this drama was the introduction of donuts. During that period, the Japanese diet mostly consists of white rice and thus a lack of vitamin B1, which is known as beriberi. So, Jin had to teach his assistance on how to make donuts and cover them with red bean paste that will provide the vitamin B1 that they need. Jin begins to sell these to the public which became quite popular.
All of my questions that I had from season one has finally been answered. Questions such as whats does a baby fetus has to do with the the story, who was the bandaged man, and why and how did Jin slip back through time. All the above questions got answered in the final episode which was two hours long. It was a happy and bittersweet ending. But I'm glad that the drama ended in a satisfying conclusion and also tied up the lose ends.
I usually don't watch Japanese period dramas, but since this drama had a little Sci-fi element to this story, I decided to watch this. Because, I find that this whole time traveling and time slip theme to be a fascinating subject. Overall, I loved this drama. And, I'm glad that I have taken a look at it.
